The LGBT community has been gathering more and more support in India, with people being more tolerant and accepting of the personal choices individuals make. As per its informal tradition, this year, popular reality show 'Bigg Boss 8' features Mr Gay India 2014 winner, Sushant Divgikar. A gentle personality, the young actor had earlier said in an interview that he wanted to "sensitise the people about his community by being the face of LGBT community in 'Bigg Boss 8'."
While most contestants have been behaving naturally and normally with Divgikar, popular radio jockey Pritam Singh was caught mocking the young actor about his sexual orientation. Singh, who's a part of the Secret Society of the show was watching the proceedings of the elimination round on in the main 'Bigg Boss 8' house on the television.
"Didi ayi, didi! Behen, kissko nominate karogi, bolo," said Pritam in the fourth episode of the show, which was aired on September 25. The other contestants who are a part of the Secret Society, Deepshikha Nagpal and Puneet Issar giggled at the comment.
When Big Boss made its debut in 2005, it made waves in staid Indian society with one of the contestants being a cross-dresser. Since then its participants have included a gay fashion designer, a celebrity cross-dresser TV show host from Pakistan, and an Indian transgender activist.
Last year, eyebrows were raised when VJ Andy and wrestler Sangram Singh were rumoured as a couple. According to Gay Star News: "Salman Khan hummed a line from a popular song, 'Raja ko rani se pyaar ho gaya'. He then ad libbed, singing 'Raja ko raja se pyaar ho gaya', and began to snigger, with raucous canned background laughter underlining the double-entendred comment."
