About 2,500 cops will be deployed in the constituency that will go to poll on Wednesday.

BELLARY: All preparations for the Bellary bypoll scheduled for November 30 are in place, said Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer A A Biswas. Addressing the media along with IGP (Eastern Range) Sanjay Sayi at the deputy commissioner’s office here on Monday, Biswas said that a total of 195 polling booths have been set up and 950 polling staff have been trained for the voting process.

36 micro-observers, 19 MCC teams and 18 sector officials would man the election process with the help of the police department, he said. All tahsildars and district assistant commissioners would assist the MCC teams, the DC said, which will handle the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs). Faulty machines would be immediately replaced.

Corporation Comissioner D L Narayan and Deputy Director of Food and Civil Supplies Department Manjunath would act as sector magistrates during the election and the process of issuing voter slips is completed, he said. IGP (Eastern range) Sanjay Sayi, who was also present, said that all polling booths have been provided with adequate security.

About 2,500 police staff, including four platoons of para-military forces, district and state police, would be responsible for security during the bypoll. “66 mobile units have been formed and 13 check-points have been set up for the purpose.”

118 sensitive and 15 hyper-sensitive polling booths have been identified from a total of 195 polling booths for the by-election. So far 39 cases have been registered and Rs 30 lakh and liquor worth Rs 80,000 has been seized.
