Begusarai Farmers to Receive Free Training on 'Bael' Cultivation in Ayodhya
Thirty local farmers will be selected to undergo training at Acharya Narendra Dev Agriculture and Technology University in Ayodhya, renowned nationwide for its expertise in vine cultivation.

In an initiative aimed at promoting ‘bael’ cultivation among farmers, the Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA) in Begusarai, Bihar, has announced free training sessions for farmers. Known for its medicinal properties and revered as an ancient fruit of India, ‘bael’ holds significant cultural and health importance. According to reports, the upcoming program will train farmers in efficient ‘bael’ cultivation techniques and the training would be conducted on a first-come, first-served basis. Interested farmers are encouraged to apply at the ATMA office by the end of July.

Ajit Kumar, the director of Begusarai ATMA, informed Local 18 that thirty local farmers from Begusarai will be selected to undergo training at Acharya Narendra Dev Agriculture and Technology University in Ayodhya, renowned nationwide for its expertise in vine cultivation. Following this training, the government plans to provide ‘bael’ plants at subsidised rates.

Adding to this, a local shopkeeper in Begusarai mentioned that they typically sell ‘bael’ and its juice from Jharkhand and other states, which are costly and offer lower margins. With local production in Begusarai, ‘bael’ prices are expected to decrease, benefiting both shopkeepers and farmers alike in terms of cost savings.

Acknowledging the historical relevance of ‘bael’ across the country, Kumar emphasised the suitability of soil in Begusarai for its production. The training initiative aimed to boost ‘bael’ cultivation among local farmers, stated Kumar, adding that the initiative was part of efforts by ATMA to leverage Begusarai’s agricultural potential, particularly in fruit cultivation.

Farmers participating in the program would benefit from comprehensive training sessions, facilitating increased ‘bael’ production and economic returns. “We aim to equip 30 selected farmers with the necessary skills,” stated Kumar. The training would cover various aspects of ‘bael’ cultivation, ensuring participants are well-prepared to enhance their agricultural practices.

For further details and applications, interested farmers are advised to visit the ATMA office in Begusarai. The program underscores the local administration’s commitment to promoting sustainable agriculture and enhancing farmers’ livelihoods through skill development initiatives.
