BANGALORE: The festival season often brings out the child in us.When it’s Navaratri, it’s not only about the delicious sweets, it’s also about feasting our eyes on colourful dolls. Sridevi Ravindra wife of the former Chief Secretary of Karnataka Dr A Ravindra, has displayed her collection of breathtaking dolls in respect to the tradition that’s followed during Navarathi at her residence. The family has a collection of more than 1,000 dolls that they have been collecting for the past 14 years.Sridevi says, “I was managing a pre-school for the neighborhood children. To educate them about our culture I taught them using dolls. That is when I started collecting dolls.” From idols of the Gods to traditional dolls, the collection boasts of unity in diversity.Along with all the mythological idols you can see a collection of Barbie dolls and Santa Clause too.She says, “I can see life in each and every doll. While I was arranging my collection, my granddaughter brought her Barbie dolls and asked me to display them too.” The eye-catcher of her collection is the theme of Bangalore.Sridevi has displayed her dolls on nine steps, and one step brings out the theme of Urban Landscape. She has placed cardboard models of Vidhana Soudha, High Court and the Glass House at Lal Bagh.To give the Bangalore touch, she has placed a number of toy cars before these models symbolising the traffic in our city. She says, “Every single doll here has its own story. Many people keep come home during the nine days to see my collection. They ask me about my rare dolls.I find it good to spread knowledge about our culture and beliefs through these dolls.”
