BANGALORE: AkzoNobel, the global paints and coatings company, gave away the award of “Community Program Best Practices Competition” to its Bangalore plant for their project on health care.A cash prize worth 30,000 Euros was awarded to the winning project, ‘Help with Healthy Living’, that provided health benefits to approximately 6,000 people across four villages. As part of its mission to inculcate a culture of giving amongst its employees, every year, AkzoNobel organises a competition on community-based programmes, encouraging employees to contribute to a cause. This competition draws participation from 80 countries where AkzoNobel has its operations.Humsa Dhir, country communications manager, AkzoNobel- India and South Asia, said, “The programme is all about bringing a synergy between our CSR philosophy and actual practices followed on ground.”The winning project began in September 2008 and was aimed at providing health care facilities to the underprivileged, free of cost. At the health care clinic, not only was basic medical check-up provided to school kids free of cost, but the employees based in the city also spread awareness among the villagers on various health issues such as hazards of tobacco/smoking, HIV/AIDS, personal hygiene, TB and more.
