Bangalore: An under trial facing rape and murder charges, Jaishankar, managed a dramatic jail break in Bangalore. A manhunt has now been launched even as eleven jail officials have been suspended.
The 36-year-old under trial was facing 13 charges including rape, murder and kidnap. Police officials have said that he allegedly scaled three high walls including a 30-feet outer wall.
The power supply to the electric fencing had been shut off because of heavy rains and Jaishankar had managed to get hold of a police uniform, which he used in his escape late on Saturday night.
Jaishankar was lodged in the underground cell of the high-security Parappana Agrahara jail because he had "psychological problems".
He managed to open the cell with "some sort of thing", came to the ground floor and climbed the 20-feet wall with the help of a pole which led to the outer wall, planted with glass pieces. Jaishankar, who was also reportedly wearing police uniform, then used a bed-sheet and belt to jump out of the prison. "He is injured badly. There are blood-stains at the spot", ADGP Prisons KV Gagandeep said.
Jaishankar was in the jail since 2011. DIG Prisons Vishwanathaiah is conducting a preliminary inquiry into the incident.
