Ballantine’s, in association with The Westin Hyderabad Mindspace, brings to theatre lovers one of the most awarded plays of the last decade, 'August: Osage County', a Pulitzer winning play by Tracy Letts. Directed by Lillete Dubey, the play strikes a chord with today’s audience. It addresses the universal theme of family and the various undercurrents that define relationships existing therein. Set in Goa, the play portrays a family in a state of near meltdown. Funny, potent, vicious, completely volatile and lush with a sparkling disparagement of the modern family, the play has won universal critical acclaim. The play features Lilette Dubey, Sandhya Mridul, Kitu Gidwani, Meeta Vashist, Amar Talwar, Suchitra Pillai, and Ira Dubey. The powerhouse cast propels the play with exemplary performances and brings to life vividly the darkly comedic life of August: Osage County’s characters and their myriad stories. The play swept the Tony Awards with a whopping seven wins and was awarded the Pulitzer for Drama in 2008. It also won the Outer Critics Circle Award for Outstanding New Broadway Play and Drama League Award for Distinguished Production of a Play amongst others. In India, the play will run for 13 shows across six cities - Delhi, Gurgaon, Bangalore, Mumbai, Hyderabad, and Kolkata through October to December 2011. Speaking about the play, director Lilette Dubey, who also plays the lead protagonist Violet, said, “Being associated with the theatre industry for 35 years, I have worn multiple hats at times: of a director, producer and an actor. My experience tells me that audiences appreciate and engage with subjects to which they can relate to. August: Osage County is one such story that typifies families in the modern day world.” Bikram Basu, Vice-President, Marketing for Pernod Picard India said, “This is an incredible play. The Tony’s and Pulitzer show its class. The cast is the best. August: Osage County with Lilette Dubey at the helm will leave an impression”
