The Assam govt is also ready to give free medical treatment to the injured even outside the state if necessary.

New Delhi: Following the Bihar government’s decision, the Assam government on Saturday announced an ex-gratia payment of Rs 3 lakh to the next of kin of those killed and Rs 50,000 to the injured in ULFA attacks on non-Assamese people in Dibrugarh and Tinsukia districts.

Earlier the Bihar government had sent a delegation of ministers to Assam to assess the security arrangements of Biharis residing there and also announced an ex-gratia of Rs 1 lakh to kin of each victim of the carnage, hailing from Bihar.

The Assam government would also give free medical treatment to the injured even outside the state if necessary, said a government spokesman in Guwahati.

The banned ULFA outfit was held responsible for the killings of more than 40 people have been killed in the two districts since Friday.

Twenty-six people were killed in ULFA attacks on brick-kiln workers and milkmen on Saturday while 19 others were gunned down on Friday.

The incidents have sparked off tension in the area with people tense that it could lead to more violence.

The Assam government had requested the Centre to beef up security in trains running to and from Asom so that passengers from the state were not targeted elsewhere.
