CHENNAI: Refuting the allegations of CM J Jayalalithaa on the Anna Arivalayam issue, DMK leader M Karunanidhi on Friday said even the Sarkaria panel had averred that there was no coercion in the purchase of land through the party trust. He said Jayalalithaa previously charged that the sale deed for the purchase of land for Anna Arivalayam had only the signature of Subburathinam Naidu while that of other members of the Zamindar family was not available. Stating that Jayalalithaa was now claiming that there were totally 18 members in the family and that all of them had not signed, Karunanidhi said certain members who were minors at that time had not signed. “Their parents, however, signed on their behalf.” On Jayalalithaa asking him if he was prepared to give away land to the government if it exceeded 25 grounds, he said, “I never said that the extent of the land was only 25 grounds. I only mentioned that a cawney approximately equals 25 grounds...”Referring to CM’s assertion that the name of MGR had not figured in the sale document, who was then in the DMK, Karunanidhi quoted excerpts that had the name of the former CM and AIADMK founder in his capacity as trustee.
