Hyderabad: Toll due to heavy rains in the state went up by two on Sunday, taking the total to 14. The bodies of two persons, who had been washed away in Kali Vanka in Chippagiri mandal in Kurnool district, were found about 3 km away.

According to Alur CI Venkatramaiah, the victims were identified as Basha (22), an autorickshaw driver from Ramadurgam in Chippagiri mandal. He was on his way to his village from Alur when he was washed away along with his vehicle. Three passengers travelling in the auto were also feared drowned but they were found alive and safe.

The other victim was identified as Mallikarjuna Reddy of Guntakal in Anantapur district. He was driving his Indica car when he was washed away along with the vehicle in the deluge.

The road transport to four villages situated between Bibi Nagar and Pillaipalle in Nalgonda district was restored after water receded and debris cleared. Meanwhile, a moderate to heavy rain was reported from Bhadrachalam division in Khammam district and several parts of Anantapur district.

In Bhadrachalam division administration was put on alert with increasing water levels in the Godavari with inflows increasing due to heavy rains in the upper catchment areas of Chhattisgarh. With water levels in Cheekuvagu and Chikativagu in Wazedu and Venkatapuram mandals, 10 villages remained cut off from the rest of the world.

With water flowing over the bridge on the streamlet in Aswapuram mandal, six villages remained marooned. With increasing water levels in the Taliperu reservoir, 13 crest gates were lifted and water was released into Godavari river.

However, there has been no report of any loss of life or property from Khammam and Anantapur districts. In the rest of the state, there was no rain except for an isolated drizzle here and there. In the state capital, which witnessed the second highest rainfall on a single day in recent times, the situation was limping back to normalcy.

Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy directed all the district collectors to keep a close watch on the situation and take remedial steps as warranted, and apprise the chief secretary of the situation from time to time.
