An uphill task for Sourav Ganguly
An uphill task for Sourav Ganguly
Failure in the last two matches of the Duleep trophy makes the task of Ganguly's return to the Indian team a lot more difficult.

Ahmedabad: Deposed Indian captain Sourav Ganguly did not do his chances for a return to national colours any good in the Duleep trophy final at Ahmedabad.

Ganguly made a pair in the match, ironically losing his wicket in both innings to another India discard, Zaheer Khan.

Playing the Duleep trophy after a long gap, Ganguly guided a young East Zone team to the final but his bad luck in the finals continued as his team lost the low scoring match.

After the match Ganguly said, "I am disappointed with this game, but I have played well in whatever first class games I have played. This season I have got three first class hundreds, I could have contributed more in this game but I have played well in the first class games."

"You are bound to fail sometimes but I rather look at it this way that I have 4 hundreds in the last 6 games, I should have done well in this important game, I am disappointed that I didn't do well," he added.

Although he made a century against North Zone at Rajkot, Ganguly's failures in the last two matches against the Zimbabwe President's XI and the final has given the critics one more chance to oppose his recall to the national team.

Ganguly has already been left out of the Indian team for the first three matches against South Africa.

With no domestic matches scheduled before the team for the fourth and fifth matches is selected, Ganguly's return to Team India looks increasingly unlikely.
