Album with 'mutilated Christ' banned
A music album which depicts a mutilated image of Jesus Christ on its cover was opposed by a Catholic-dominant forum in Mumbai.

London: A Catholic-dominant forum in Mumbai has successfully campaigned for the withdrawal of an ‘offensive’ music album on Christ from India, the cover of which depicts a mutilated form of Jesus Christ.

Joseph Dias of Mumbai's Catholic Secular Forum has described the cover of US rock act Slayer's latest album Christ Illusion as offensive and in very bad taste.

According to the BBC, this comment led religious groups to complain about the cover, and the band's Indian label, EMI Music, has recalled stocks of Christ Illusion and had them destroyed.

According to the report, some of the songs in the album, including Skeleton Christ and Jihad, could offend both Muslims and Christians.

The album cover depicts Christ with partially amputated limbs and a missing eye, set in a landscape littered with amputated heads.

EMI India said it withdrew the albums and destroyed them so the material would offend no community. The company added that it had no plans to re-release the record at any time in India.

A censored version of the album cover has been produced, which shields the majority of the Christ-like figure with Slayer's logo.
