SANGAREDDY: Civil rights activists on Monday condemned the state government's attitude towards Telangana activists fighting for the cause of separate statehood. They said that the issue would be taken up with the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) after gathering complete information on the police lathicharge, firing incidents, arrests and detaining of T activists during the movement.
A group of civil rights activists led by Andhra Pradesh Civil Liberties Committee (APCLC) general secretary Chandrasekhar visited Siddipet and inquired about the alleged police atrocities against the T agitators during the movement. Shantham from Delhi, Prashanth Aldar from Kolkata, Mani from Tamil Nadu, Prof Balaiah from Karnataka and several other civil rights activists from other places in the country visited Siddipet and expressed solidarity with the T activists, who were on a hunger strike for the cause of Telangana state.Speaking on the occasion, the civil rights activists said people have the right to peacefully protest for the cause they believe in and no government can stop them. "It is not advisable for the government to register cases under the PD Act, the Railway Act and other nonbailable sections to send them to jail. We will tour all the Telangana districts to bring out the attrocities against the T activists and submit a report shortly," Chandrasekhar said.

He said that they would also take up the problems being faced by women participating in the movement with the National Women's Commission.
