KOCHI: The Navy on Friday organised a Naval exercise in the sea off Kochi to spread awareness about the capabilities of warships in connection with 40th Naval Day. The Naval display was aimed at giving a closer look at the operations of the Navy’s southern fleet.Journalists boarded the two ships - INS Krishna and INS Tir. All were taken from 14 nautical miles into the deep sea where they performed search and rescue operations, deck landing performance, anti-piracy checking, jack stays, gun firing and manoeuvrability performance. When INS Krishna and INS Tir reached more than 14 nautical miles away from the shore, two Fast Attack Craft (FAC) - INS Kabra and INS Kalpeni - joined the fleet. The Naval chopper Chetak at first displayed the search and rescue operations with divers diving to the sea and later being drawn back to the chopper. The operation is very important to rescue people from mid sea.Next was deck landing exercise when Chetak successfully landed on board both INS Krishna and INS TIR. The Naval team later performed mock anti-piracy checking when two speedboats with Naval team entered and checked the documents and searched the entire INS Krishna and INS TIR which acted as suspected ships. The splendid and one of the toughest among all was jack stays, when two ships INS Krishna and INS Tir, came side by side synchronising the speed and interchanged crew members using ropes. The journalists were given first hand experience to glide along the rope. The FACs performed operational manoeuvres by circling at 360 degree angle with ease. The ambience for the display was heightened when gun firing began. Flairs were shot from INS Krishna and INS Tir. Gunmen using Medium Machine Gun(MMG) and Light Machine Gun(LMG) shot the target. The action-packed Naval operations with clockwork precision gave a first-hand experience to all the spectators. Talking to mediapersons, Commander Nevendu Sexena said the Navy has been a integral part of national security and it has been successfully carrying out operations across the nation. He added that Navy has been successfully tackling piracy and keeping strict vigil on the pirates.
