New Delhi: After getting acquired by Google for an undisclosed amount, Apture has decided to discontinue its products and services. "On December 20 we will discontinue Apture's product and services. When this happens, users will no longer be able to highlight and search terms with Apture on your web pages. Your website will continue to work as normal even after our service is suspended; however, you are free to remove the Apture 'script' code from your site as well," said Apture in a post.
Apture believes that since day one, they have been working on getting the Apture experience into as much of the web as possible. While they are proud of having helped thousands of publishers enhance their websites, they think now is the best time to expand their efforts by joining Google's Chrome team to help build the next generation user experience directly into the web.
The acquisition would also help Google enhance the user experience of its browser and social networking services. The 4-year old Apture focuses on providing instant access to information with in-page search technology.
Besides, Google has also acquired Katango, which was founded a little over a year ago and builds algorithms for automatically sorting friends that improves online social interaction.
