CHENNAI: Making a fervent appeal to the local people not to stall public welfare projects anymore, North Chennai MP TKS Elangovan on Monday said that they, before going to court against their land being acquired for any projects, should reconsider their decision as it hamper the implementation of schemes.Speaking to reporters after inspecting a flyover, jointly developed by the Railways and Chennai Corporation at Cochrane Basin Road in Korrukupet along with Mayor M Subramanian, Elangovan said, "It is my appeal to the locals, who go to court to stall such public welfare projects. They must understand that the projects that could help lakhs of people when completed get delayed due to such unwarranted legal wrangling." He made the appeal at Korrukupet as the particular flyover, being constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 17 crore, has been caught in legal wrangles after a few local residents went to court against their land being acquired for the project and got injunctions. Despite the legal hurdle and other obstructions by nature, construction works of the flyover are progressing well and expected to be completed before March 2012, Subramanian told City Express. The flyover on completion will considerably reduce the travelling time of motorists to reach Basin Bridge, Waltax Road and Chennai Central from the Tondiarpet side. Besides, the facility can also help in reducing the congestion on Thiruvotriyur High Road as it presents an alternate road link to north Chennai.
