KANNUR: Now the tinsel world is all set to bring out ‘Kannur Again’ (Kannur Veendum), exactly thirteen years after the political film, ‘Kannur’, hit the screens of Kerala. ‘Kannur Veendum’ is designed as volume number two of ‘Kannur’.The producer, director, and many of the actors are retained in the new part. But, the tone and theme of the story are totally different, going by the words of the producer and director of the film. ‘Kannur Veendum’ is woven around a passionate love affair against the backdrop of the violent political image of the place. Robin Thirumala has done the script and story of the film being directed by Haridas. The ghost of its violent political past has never ceased to haunt Kannur. The Malayalam commercial cinema has also never failed to make use of the turbulent political happenings in this part of the state.At one stage the violence here was a CPM versus Congress affair, and later it turned out to be the BJP-RSS against the CPM.Irrespective of who were involved in the clashes, the entire region was transformed into a political killing field.The district here was virtually being rocked by violent political clashes when a film with the title ‘Kannur’ was released 13 years ago.The film, even as it reflected the impact of the petty political clashes and violence on the peaceful life of the people, turned out to be a hit as it could successfully make use of the people’s curiosity all over the state to know the happenings here. Robin Thirumala, script writer of the film, said: “It is all about a research student from Kannur who falls in love with a girl as he is absorbed in research in Delhi. Political violence, of course, find a place in the story.” Abdul Latheef Malappuram of Golden Wings International is the producer of the film.
