KOCHI: A successful CEO needs to be prime minister and king, said Bart Jackson, founder and CEO of Prometheus Publishing, LLC, New Jersey, at a talk ‘The Art of the CEO’ organised by the School of Management Studies, Cusat on Wednesday.Bart interacted with the students and asked them how many wanted to be CEOs and run their own companies and most of them raised their hands. The discussion developed on what it takes to establish a management chain that thinks on its own, yet reports vital logistical information to the Prime Minister CEO and how the king CEO establishes a leadership style.Citing case studies, he spoke on the qualities of good CEOs and the importance of choosing a leadership style that was natural and suited to each CEO.A good CEO has his ears everywhere and is searching for better ways of doing things. He must be a constant innovator, said Bart.He pulls his team in the same direction, he said.He must have an aura of command and cool and make his presence felt even in his absence. As for business, he said there is art and science in it but it is the magic that sets it apart which is created by individuals.Bart’s company produces BartBooks, a business guide series. “Today businesses have no time for large volumes so we put them in a 150-page format at Bart- Books,” he said. Prof Francis Cherunilam of Cusat welcomed the gathering. Philip Abraham, CEO, Reubro International, introduced the speaker and Prof Moli P Koshy, faculty coordinator, proposed the vote of thanks.
