THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In a major reprieve to hundreds of aggrieved in the state, mainly women, who kept away from filing police complaints because of the tedium involved in going to a police station, Kerala Police have come up with a unique solution. They will henceforth collect complaints through 14 Friends Janasevana Kendrams in the state. The project being implemented by Kerala State IT Mission will be rolled out in early April.“Police personnel have already been given training. A person who registers a complaint in any of the Friends Janasevana Kendram will get a token number; this number can be used to track the status of the complaint online. The project is in its final stages and will be rolled out in another two weeks,” DGP Jacob Punoose told Express.Once the success of this initiative is assessed, the police plan to extend the service to more than 200 Akshya e-centres in the state so that more people can benefit.“The public will no longer need to go to a police station to register a complaint but can register through any of the Friends centres. A token number with a copy of the complaint will be returned to the complainant. A scanned copy of the complaint will be sent to the police station under whose jurisdiction the crime has taken place. A police officer will be posted at each centre to make the system hassle-free,” said Christopher Charles Raj, SP, who heads the project. He said that 16 police personnel from 14 districts have completed their training in the new software at the IT lab in Police Training College. “An officer of the DySP rank at the District Crime Records Bureau will oversee the smooth running of the project. The copy of the complaint will also be forwarded to the DySP so that he would be able to monitor the follow-up action. The record of the total number of complaints received and despatched will also be monitored by DCRB,” he said.Kerala State IT Mission co-ordinator Sabarish said it  has completed the installation of the software in 14 Friends Centres in all district headquarters.
