CHENNAI: Are you a singer or a musical group looking for a platform to perform and showcase your abilities? Your prayers have finally been answered. Donut House at Wellington Estate, Egmore, has launched ‘Sweet Spot’, a stage for musicians to perform to a live audience every Tuesday. At the inaugural day of the event recently, four bands in the city got an opportunity to perform to an audience of over 100 music lovers. The star of the event was the popular playback singer Suvi Suresh (whose sultry voice in Kodana Kodi from Saroja we just can’t get out of our heads), who performed three scintillating numbers with her band SoulSonic, to a grooving and dancing audience. She lit up the entire room with her soulful and energetic performance, completely taking control of the evening. If the spectators were seen humming and dancing, while munching on the free donuts and sipping beverages that were being passed around, all credit goes to Suvi. The event began with Donut House owner, Bhuvanesh, announcing the reason for coming up with such a concept. “As a music lover, it gives me great pleasure to provide young and budding talent in the city an opportunity to perform in front of a live audience,” he said. “Let the show begin!” he added enthusiastically The first band on stage, 83 miles/hr, performed a couple of songs, including their title track, which had everyone humming the lyrics, “I’m on the road at 83 miles/hr... where can I stop.” The second group, Baritones, were seen smiling at each other, as they came up with one lilting song after another.So, if your idea of winding down after a rough day at work translates to a cup of steaming coffee and creamy donuts with a rich filling, combined with some great music, you know where to head every Tuesday from now.
