32-Year Long Wait Ends, 6 Accused in Ajmer Gang Rape Case Sentenced to Life Imprisonment
Six convicted in Ajmer gang rape case, sentenced to life imprisonment, 32 years after assaulting and blackmailing over 100 students. Know more about the heinous crime

A special court has convicted six accused in the Ajmer gang rape cum blackmail case and sentenced them to life imprisonment, 32 years after the heinous crime was committed. A fine of Rs 5 lakh has also been imposed on each of the accused.

The court found Nafees Chishti, Salim Chishti, Iqbal Bhati, Naseem Syed, Zameer Hussain and Sohil Ghani guilty. There were a total of 18 accused in the sexual assault cum blackmail case, out of which nine have already been sentenced.

Earlier, the court gave its verdict against nine of the accused who were acquitted after serving a sentence of 10 years. One of the accused, Almas Maharaj is absconding and one of them died by suicide after getting bail. A separate case is going on against one accused who has been charged under Section 377 of the Indian Penal Code.

The main accused in the case was then District President of Youth Congress, Farooq Chishti. The incident involved the gang rape of more than 100 college students in 1992 and then circulating their obscene photos.

Farooq Chishti, his associate Nafees and his henchmen used to invite girl students at farmhouse parties and restaurants so that they could intoxicate them and then indulge in gang rape. Following this, they used to click their obscene pictures so that they could blackmail them to bring in other girls to those parties.
