Three youth from Andhra Pradesh studying in a private university here, were killed when the car in which they were travelling hit against a stationary truck on the Katpadi-Thiruvalam road in the early hours of Friday.
The youth have been identified as Dhanurdatta Reddy (21), son of Suryanarayana Reddy of Ramnagar, Anathapur district, Rajsingh Solanki (21), son of Omprakash Solanki of Kanjili in Srikakulam district and Gopavaram Marutiprasad (21) of CMR Palli in Kadappa.
Collegemates Manikanta (21) and Jaishankar (21) who were travelling with them were injured and have been admitted to a private hospital for treatment. While Manikanta’s condition is critical, Jaishankar is receiving intensive treatment and has shown signs recovery, claimed hospital sources.
Police sources said Dhanurdatta was driving the car but it was not clear as to who the car belonged to and where were they headed. It is suspected that they could have gone to have tea at nearby shops in Katpadi railway station.
Locals who witnessed the gory scene said the bodies of the three victims had to be retrieved from the car after breaking the jammed seats. The bonnet of the car was also badly damaged.
The students who completed B Tech had been placed in reputed companies. Police are hoping to get more details from Jaishankar after her recovers in the hospital. Katpadi police are investigating the case.
