CHENNAI: The number of State-owned transport corporations in Tamil Nadu would go up from the current eight to 10 during the current financial year, Transport Minister V Senthil Balaji announced on Tuesday. Two new corporations would come up with Srirangam and Vellore as their headquarters. Replying to the discussion on the Demand for Grants for his department, the Minister said two more transport corporations were being created, based on the recommendations of the technical committee constituted for the purpose,  to improve the services being offered to the passengers.The proposed transport corporation headquartered in Srirangam, would be carved out of the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (Kumbakonam) Limited.  The districts of Tiruchy, Perambalur, Ariyalur and Karur would be covered under the entity, which will be christened TNSTC (Srirangam) Limited.The other transport corporation having its headquarters at Kumbakonam would cover the districts of Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Pudukottai, Sivaganga and Ramanathapuram.Similarly, the TNSTC (Villupuram) Limited would be split into two corporations.  The one with Villupuram as its headquarters would have Villupuram, Cuddalore and Tiruvannamalai districts as its areas of operations.  The new transport corporation, TNSTC (Vellore) Limited,  to be created with Vellore as its headquarters, would cover the districts of Vellore, Kancheepuram and Tiruvallur.
