Hyderabad: Thirteen members of a family in Andhra Pradesh, including four women and four children, were burnt alive when their house was set on fire following a village land dispute.

Police said the dead were relatives of farmer Gade Ashok. His brother, Kistappa, was killed in February after the two had feuded over the inheritance of land in Polkampalli village, 100 km southwest of Hyderabad.

On Friday, Kistappa's friends first attacked Gade, but when he escaped they set fire to his house after locking family members inside.

"The gruesome incident is the fall-out of a mindless village feud," said K Srinivas Reddy, district police superintendent. Such rivalries have led to the death of more than 120 people in the state in the last two years, police said.
