A differently-abled artist from Andhra Pradesh recently did the unthinkable. The man named Tupakula Ramanjaneyu took a cycle trip of several hundreds of kilometres to spread awareness to save girl children. Earlier, he had conducted and organised several seminars to spread awareness of gender equality and respect for women. He focused on the issue of teaching girls and giving them the opportunity to take part in every field. Tupakula belongs to Proddatur in Kadapa district of Andhra Pradesh and has actively participated in several social service programmes since childhood. It is believed that through his paintings, he shares social messages. Tupakula’s niche is to paint prominent public figures and present them to a particular individual.

Tupakula has painted pictures of the Indian Prime Minister, the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, the President, several film artists, and other politicians. He has always been a role model for several people and has created a special identity through his paintings.

Tupakula wants to focus on societal issues, especially those faced by women. Through his cycle trip (yatra), he wants to spread awareness about the importance of girl children. He also wants to take part in several other social service causes and make society a better place to live. At the same time, he also wants to focus on his profession and passion for painting.

Tupakula Ramanjaneyu has also travelled from Proddatur to Hyderabad with the portrait of IT Minister KT Rama Rao. The trip was undertaken for a week, and then he visited the minister and gifted him with the painting.

He is enthusiastic about spreading Save the Girl Child awareness. Tupakula Ramanjaneyu wants to reach more people through these kinds of seminars and awareness programmes so that societal norms for women change.

A few years ago, a similar incident took place where a 40-year-old cyclist travelled from Chandigarh to Mumbai to spread environmental awareness. It took him almost 50 days to travel, during which he taught the importance of sustainable development.
