How to Plug Walk
How to Plug Walk
The Plug Walk is a dance that was started by Rich the Kid’s song “Plug Walk.” You might have seen your friends, social media stars, or even celebrities Plug Walking lately. If you want to get in on the trend but you don’t know how, just stand with your knees together, pick up your legs one at a time, and keep your arms loose, and you can be Plug Walking in no time.
Things You Should Know
  • Keeping your feet shoulder-length apart, rotate your knees so they alternate between facing outward and inward.
  • At the same time, repeatedly lift each leg up into an "L" shape and try to add a little bounce as you rotate your legs.
  • Make fists in front of your face, slowly move your arms up as you begin dancing, and keep your arms straight above your head and in line with your shoulders for the remainder of the dance.

Moving Your Legs

Stand with your feet shoulder width apart and point your knees inward. Keep your legs in a comfortable position where you can stand up straight, but still move your legs. Point your knees in toward each other while leaving the balls of your feet on the ground and rotating your heels outward. The Plug Walk doesn’t take a lot of leg movement, so you can wear jeans or other pants that might normally be restricting to dance in. However, make sure you can at least move your legs comfortably in whatever you are wearing.

Turn your knees outward, then inward again. Turn on the balls of your feet so that your heels face inward and your knees face out toward the side. Keep your legs slightly bent so that it is easier to move. Quickly turn your knees back inward so they face each other again.

Pick up your left leg with your knee turned in and your foot pointed out. Shift your weight over to your right leg, keeping your knees turned inward. Pick your left leg up with your shin parallel to the ground so that the bottom of your left foot faces outward, creating an “L” shape with your left leg. This movement might feel a little awkward at first, but it gets easier as you practice it more and more.

Put your left leg down again with your knees pointed in. Place your left foot back down into your standing position, and rotate your knees so that they point in toward each other. Shift your weight back onto both of your legs so that you are standing straight.Tip: Try adding a bounce with your heels each time you pick up and put down your foot. This will make your dancing look more natural.

Rotate your knees outward again and quickly turn them in. Turn on the balls of your feet again so that your knees are outward and your heels are inward. Keep your legs bent the whole time. Quickly turn your knees back in toward each other again.

Pick up your right leg with your knee turned in and your foot out. Shift your weight onto your left leg this time, still keeping your knees turned inward. Pick your right leg up with your shin parallel to the ground, keeping the bottom of your right foot facing outward. This time, create the “L” shape with your right leg. Try to keep your knees together as much as possible as you move your legs around.

Repeat the movements, increasing your speed to match the song tempo. Keep picking up each leg one at a time and put it back down again, moving your knees outward and then in again each time. You can add a bounce to the movements as you speed up to the tempo of the song you are dancing to. You might need to practice before you can Plug Walk fast, and that’s okay!

Moving Your Arms

Start with your arms at head height and your hands in a fist. Act like you are about to lift something heavy over your head and press your hands up near your ears. Keep your elbows tucked in toward your body so that your arms are in a straight line. Ball your hands into loose fists. Your arms don’t have to be stiff or solid.

Push your hands up slowly past your head as you pick up each leg. As you start doing the leg movements of the Plug Walk, push your hands up slowly toward the ceiling. Straighten your arms out completely within a couple of seconds after you start dancing.

Keep your arms held above your head until you finish dancing. Once your arms are straight up, keep them up until you’ve finished the dance. As you get better and better at Plug Walking, you can try rotating your arms in a circle as you dance.Tip: Try making your hands into peace signs, or giving people a thumb’s up while you dance. Have fun with it!
