How to Get Bones

Butcher animals to collect bones. Select the knife icon from your livestock panel, and as your dwarves butcher creatures, you'll get bones. The animals must have skeletons, like cows, roosters, and pigs.

If Your Dwarf Isn't Picking Up Bones

The animal died of starvation. You must use the Butcher to kill the animal. If it died for any other reason, like starvation, you won't be able to get bones from it.

The corpse was a sentient creature. You're unable to get bones from anything considered a sentient creature, including enemies and other dwarves.
