Fede Alvarez Receives Praise From Ridley Scott And James Cameron For Alien: Romulus
For Alien: Romulus producer Ridley Scott, Fede Alvarez opted to show him the movie without visual effects.

The recently released teaser trailer for Fede Alvarez’ Alien: Romulus hints at a return to the classic thrills of the original Alien films from the late 1970s and 1980s. Drawing inspiration from Ridley Scott’s Alien and James Cameron’s Aliens, the trailer opens with iconic spaceships and offers a glimpse of the young cast, which includes Cailee Spaeny, Isabela Merced, David Jonsson, Archie Renaux, Spike Fearn and Aileen Wu. Alvarez, who has written and directed the film scheduled to release on August 15, in a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, shared that he received praise from legendary filmmakers Ridley and James for his work on the film.

Alvarez shared, “For all of us and whatever it is that we do, the dream is to sit down with the masters of our craft and have a conversation about what we do and learn how to do it better. And the process of making this film definitely gave me that experience with Ridley. At the story level, we first told him what I was planning to do and then when he read it, I discussed the script with him. And later, when he watched the movie, I discussed my cut with him."

Interestingly, for the franchise mastermind and Alien: Romulus producer Ridley Scott, Fede Alvarez opted to show him the movie without visual effects (VFX). Despite this unconventional choice, Ridley was delighted and according to Alvarez, the filmmaker stated, “Fede, what can I say? It’s great."

Further, talking about the reaction of James Cameron, Fede Alvarez added, “He’s now seen the movie and loved it. It’s also fascinating because their notes and comments are completely different. They wouldn’t repeat a note. Whatever Ridley said, Cameron said something different. So the fantastic part of being able to make this film is to have the chance to work with them."

Alien: Romulus takes place between the events of the original Alien film from 1979 and its 1986 sequel. Director Fede Alvarez shares his excitement and explains that viewers who haven’t seen the films will have a unique and thrilling experience. The filmmaker feels jealous, as they will be introduced to the complex worlds of Alien for the first time, without any prior knowledge of the creature’s origins or other details. However, those who are familiar, Alvarez assure that they’ll have engaging experience and they will be able to understand references of the earlier films.

The story explores the group of young space colonizers and scavengers who come across blood thirsty Xenomorph in an abandoned space station. Alien: Romulus marks the seventh instalment in the Alien franchise and the ninth overall film including the Aliens vs. Predator films.
