Premier League giants Manchester United are reportedly closing in on signing Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) midfielder Manuel Ugarte. The Red Devils are currently working on strengthening the squad’s central areas in the ongoing transfer window. The Old Trafford-based club has recognised Ugarte as a key player who could fill in the required positions. Amid their chase for the Uruguayan star, Football Insider’s sources have claimed that the club is preparing to hold new talks this week over a deal for the PSG star. Currently, the 23-year-old is represented by Jorge Mendes. He’s the same agent who overlooked the transfer of Leny Yoro to Manchester United.
Just a few days ago French media outlet L’Equipe reported that Manchester United had sent an offer to PSG for a 23-year-old talent Manuel Ugarte. The initial bid was eventually rejected but the positions have now reportedly come closer. The French powerhouse is currently hoping to receive at least €70 million for Ugarte, which is quite a hefty sum for Manchester United. The English club will now be looking to offer a different proposal structure which includes a loan deal along with an easy option to purchase.
Just last month, football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano shared a post on X claiming that Manchester United had been in touch with PSG for a potential Ugarte transfer. In his post, the Italian journalist wrote, “Manchester United and PSG have been in touch again in the recent hours for Manuel Ugarte. Ugarte has interest also from other clubs, PSG are open to selling him this summer and he’s expected to leave. He’d be open to joining United even without UCL. Still no formal bid.”
Manuel Ugarte will likely prove to be an impactful addition for Manchester United. Despite being just 23 years old, the Uruguayan has already made 200 appearances in his senior club career. Having already competed in some top European leagues including Liga Portugal and Ligue 1, Ugarte is no stranger to playing at the highest level. In his debut season with PSG, Ugarte made 37 appearances for the French side across all competitions. While he was unable to add a goal to his name, Ugarte did provide his teammate with three assists.
With Manchester United listening to offers for Scott McTominay and Casemiro, the club may have to get their hands on a midfielder as soon as possible. They had initially identified Benfica midfielder Joao Neves as a suitable option for their midfield. However, the English’s side management were strictly against spending Benfica’s asking price of £84 million for the Portuguese star. This led to the club switching their attention to PSG star Manuel Ugarte.
