London: Liverpool midfielder Joe Cole has made a move to ply his trade at Lille on a season-long loan.

The 29-year-old left Chelsea and joined the Reds on a free transfer last summer, and initially appeared to be a transfer coup. But injury and poor form meant that he made only eight league starts for the Merseyside club last term.

The arrival of Jordan Henderson, Charlie Adam and Steward Downing saw the former West Ham United man being linked with a move away from the club, and he has now left to play for the ambitious Ligue 1 outfit for the remainder of the season.

"Liverpool FC announced today it had finalised a deal with Lille OSC for the loan transfer of Joe Cole," read a statement on the Reds' official website.

"The 29-year old will now join the French champions for the remainder of the current campaign."

Lille confirmed the same as they released a statement on their official website, which read: "The club is pleased and proud that this project has attracted a player of this magnitude."
