London: Under-pressure Fulham manager Martin Jol will be given a helping hand by a fellow Dutchman as he tries to keep the club in the English Premier League.

After three successive defeats saw Fulham drop into the relegation zone, the club announced Wednesday that former Manchester United first-team coach Rene Meulensteen will work alongside Jol as head coach.

Meulensteen left Old Trafford six months ago in the aftermath of Alex Ferguson's retirement as manager, and later spent 16 days in charge of Russian club Anzhi Makhachkala before being fired.

"There was always going to be a battle for Rene's services and, with the assistance of our chairman Shahid Khan, we've been able to bring one of the best coaches in the world to Fulham," the club's chief executive Alistair Mackintosh said.

The pressure on Jol has intensified in recent weeks after comprehensive defeats to Southampton, Manchester United and Liverpool. Against both United and Liverpool, Fulham were 3-0 down by half-time.
