Iceland's first ever major tournament ended on Sunday when one of Europe's smallest nations lost to France in the quarter-finals.

Led by drummers, the fans welcomed the Iceland team with wild cheers and followed it with 'Viking Clap'.

Their plane flew low over the capital Reykjavik before landing at Keflavik airport where the local fire services gave them a fire hose guard of honour with shooting water creating a rainbow.

Iceland drew with Hungary and Portugal, and then beat Austria in their group to book a last-16 place, where they then stunned England 2-1 to enter quarter-finals.

The Iceland team were beaten 5-2 by tournament hosts France on Sunday, but their exploits at Euro 2016 had already captivated the fans back home.
