New Delhi: Roberto Carlos has been talking about his impending move to Turkish club Fenerbahce. But before that the World Cup winner has the chance to end his Real Madrid career on a high. A win in his final match for the club at the weekend would see them win the Spanish league title.
Carlos is busy with promotional activities for his club during his last few days with the Madrid team and will join the Turkish champions at the end of the season on Sunday.
"What Fenerbahce has given me is what Real Madrid closed to me. I have gone because of this. Fenerbahce gave me a two-year contract whilst Madrid gave me one. That meant I would have to go to Brazil again or Dubai. I wanted to continue in European football," Carlos said.
The defender, who played 125 matches for Brazil winning the World Cup in 2002, also played more than 500 times for Real, more than any other foreign-born player.
"Here I have grown as a man and as a footballer. I have won the most important titles. I am sad to leave of course but I go with my head held high because I have enjoyed life in Spain," he said.
Real Madrid will host Real Mallorca on Sunday, knowing that a victory will guarantee them the championship regardless of the result in second-placed Barcelona's match against Gimnastic.
"Sunday is going to be my last match in the Madrid shirt. I'm hoping for a great farewell with a win, it would be great. The dressing room is all agreed, we are strong mentally. Mallorca are going to have to make a big effort to beat Madrid next Sunday. I think it is going to be difficult for them because at this moment we are in great form. It will be a great match with lots of goals," an emotional Carlos added.
For Carlos, who has won three European Cups and three league titles while with Real, winning a fourth on Sunday would be a perfect way to end his time in the Spanish capital.
