August 15 is going to be a big day for the Hindi box office. Three big-ticket films – Khel Khel Mein, Stree 2 and Vedaa – are all set to lock horns. Interestingly, this is the third time that Akshay Kumar and John Abraham will have their films clashing on Independence Day. In 2018, Gold and Satyameva Jayate provided a tough competition to each other at the box office. A year later, Mission Mangal and Batla House also released on August 15. However, both the actors never let these clashes impact their equations.
Ahead of the releases of Khel Khel Mein and Vedaa, Akshay exclusively tells News18 Showsha about how he isn’t bothered about releasing his film one the same day as John, who has been his co-star on two films, Garam Masala and Desi Boyz. Talking about it, he says, “Yes, we’ll be working again, hopefully soon. We’re very good friends. We’re close buddies. Clashes at the box office keep happening. It’s not a big deal at all. It’s just a clash and not a slash.” For the unversed, in 2019, the duo had come together for a joint promotional photoshoot urging their fans to watch both Mission Mangal and Batla House.
Khel Khel Mein marks Akshay’s return to the genre of comedy after five years. In fact, going ahead, he has his kitty filled with comic capers like Housefull 5, Welcome To The Jungle, Hera Pheri 3 and Awara Paagal Deewana 2. Sharing his excitement, he remarks, “I haven’t done a comedy since Housefull 4. And I do enjoy doing comedy films. Having said that, I also enjoy doing other kinds of films.”
At the trailer launch of Khel Khel Mein, director Mudassar Aziz had exclusive told us that he wishes the best to the makers of Stree 2 and his fondness for Amar Kaushik. Fardeen Khan agrees with Akshay and Mudassar and states that he doesn’t wish ill for Stree 2 and Vedaa as he knows ‘what it takes to make a film’.
“This is a profession of blood, sweat and tears. I don’t look at it as a clash. It’s a long weekend and we want everyone’s films to do well and we wish everyone the best. We know what it takes to release a film these days. Our audiences have also evolved now. There’s so much uncertainty but let’s hope all three films. We send our love to Vedaa and Stree 2. And we also want love,” he shares.
Ammy Virk also feels that the release of three big-ticket films means no competition but an opportunity to clock bigger numbers. “I think more and more people will come to the theatre. I don’t think this situation will lead to any kind of losses. I think Jinki chutti hai, mauj hai unki. There’s Raksha Bandhan too. I can watch two films over a weekend. I would urge the audience to watch all three films,” he says. Resonating with his co-stars, Aditya Seal adds, “Stree, purush, bhai, behen… everyone should flock to the theatre!”
