Yashasvi Jaiswal also became the first Indian batter to score a double century in the World Test Championship.

Yashasvi Jaiswal registered his name in the history books with a brilliant double century in the second Test match against England at Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium, Visakhapatnam. Jaiswal, the youngest in India’s playing XI, showed his senior teammates how to convert the starts into big scores on this surface. The southpaw batted with a lot of discipline and waited for the loose balls to punish them for scoring boundaries.

The 22-year-old became the first Indian batter to score a double century in the World Test Championship.

In an innings where the second highest-run getter for India scored 34 runs, Jaiswal played a magnificent knock of 209 runs.

The southpaw stood tall against the English bowling attack when his batting partners kept changing from the other end. He hit 19 fours and 7 sixes in a knock which his full of discipline and controlled aggression.

With the double ton, he became the third youngest double centurion for India in Test cricket.

Meanwhile, he also joined the elusive list of southpaws to score a double ton for India in longest format. It was Vinod Kambli, the first left-hander to achieve the feat for India and then Sourav Ganguly and Gautam Gambhir later joined the tally.

Jaiswal made his debut last year against West Indies where he announced his arrival with a 171-run knock in his first innings. The southpaw didn’t take many innings to score his first double ton – 10 and joined another elusive tally.

Playing only his sixth Test, the 22-year-old’s sensational knock of 209 off 290 balls single-handedly powered India to 396 all out in 112 overs on the second day of the match. Jaiswal was finally dismissed when he went for a big shot and was caught by Jonny Bairstow at extra cover off Anderson’s bowling.
