Bangladesh fast bowler Hasan Mahmud and India allrounder Ravindra Jadeja inadvertently collided during the final session’s play of the first Test in Chennai today. Hasan fell onto Jadeja after losing his balance as he turned to celebrate an LBW decision which the Indian allrounder went on to review and had it overturned.

Mahmud laid on the pitch for a while looking a bit uncomfortable but fortunately, the duo avoided any injury and later were seen shaking hands.

Mahmud was the star of the day for Bangladesh as he took four wickets including three in the morning session to jolt India at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.

Mahmud first removed India captain Rohit Sharma on six before sending back rising start Shubman Gill for an eight-ball duck. He then landed a big blow when he got rid of batting superstar Virat Kohli cheaply as well on 6.

India then recovered through a strong partnership between Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rishabh Pant for the fourth wicket. The duo added 62 runs before being separated.

Pant got the start on his return to Test cricket having last played one in December 2023, also against Bangladesh. However, on 39, he became Mahmud’s fourth wicket having edged one to the wicketkeeper. Jaiswal though completed his half-century, the fifth of his nascent Test career and was out after hitting 56 off 118, an innings that featured nine fours.

KL Rahul managed 16 off 52 before being dismissed as India slipped to 144/6.

That brought Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja together. The pair batted positively and soon peeled off a century stand for the seventh wicket to repair the damage. The first Test got underway earlier on Thursday with Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto winning the toss and opting to bowl first under an overcast sky.

Bangladesh have never beaten India in Tests and will be aiming to create history after having clean swept Pakistan in a two-match series last month.
