Shreyas Iyer Regains Fitness, Set to Play in Ranji Trophy Semi-finals for Mumbai: Report
Shreyas Iyer reportedly complained of back pain after the second Test and wasn't picked in the remaining three Test of the ongoing India-England series.

India cricketer Shreyas Iyer has reportedly recovered from back spasms and will be available for Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy 2024 fixture starting March 2 against Tamil Nadu.

Iyer was part of India’s squad for the first two Tests against England in Hyderabad and Vizag. He made scores of 35, 13,27 and 29 across the four innings before complaining of back pain.

Iyer wasn’t picked in the squad for the remaining three Tests with the BCCI not disclosing the reason why.

He then also skipped Mumbai’s two Ranji Trophy matches as they first beat Assam by an innings and 80 runs before playing out a draw against Baroda to enter the last-four stage.

“Yes, Iyer has confirmed to the Mumbai Cricket Association that he is fit now and available for Mumbai’s Ranji semi-final match,” The Times of India quoted a source as saying.

Recently, BCCI secretary Jay Shah cracked the whip on international players skipping domestic matches and prioritising the Indian Premier League instead. Shah had warned that doing so will lead to implications.

Tamil Nadu will also have Washington Sundar and B Sai Sudharshan available for selection for the semi-final clash with Mumbai.

As per TOI, Sundar has been released from the India Test squad as the fifth and final match against England will only start from March 7 and by then, the Ranji clash will have ended.

Like Iyer, Sudharshan has also recovered from back spasms.

Meanwhile, as per The Indian Express, the BCCI is mulling over the possibility of additional financial reward for players managing to play in all Test series in a calendar.

“For example, if someone plays all Test series in a calendar year, he should be rewarded additionally, apart from the annual retainer contract. This is to ensure that players turn out for more red-ball cricket. This would be an additional perk for playing Test cricket,” a BCCI source was quoted as saying by the daily.
