MI vs SRH: After Missing Out on Travis Head Twice, Anshul Kamboj Cleans Up Mayank Agarwal to Grab His Maiden IPL Wicket
Anshul Kamboj burst into celebration after dismissing Mayank Agarwal as he joined his hands and seemed to thank the almighty for his first wicket in the league.

Haryana’s Anshul Kamboj on Monday made one of the most dramatic debuts in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Mumbai Indians (MI) named the 23-year-old in the first XI as they hosted the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at Wankhede Stadium. He received his cap from Sri Lanka legend and bowling coach Lasith Malinga, becoming the second Indian player to make a debut for MI this season.

Playing his first-ever IPL game, it was a dream-come-true moment for Kamboj but he endured a tough start to his journey. He conceded 14 runs in his first over, getting hit for a boundary and a six by the SRH openers. He received the same treatment from Travis Head in his next, getting belted over midwicket for another six.

It was the fifth ball of the 5th over when Kamboj decided to change his length and bowled a tad fuller to Head, knocking off his stumps. However, the debutant had overstepped and had to deal with a free-hit ball that went for a boundary. His second over turned out to be costlier than the previous one as he ended up leaking 19 runs from it.

Kamboj returned to the attack after the Powerplay and created another chance for himself. Head looked to slog a fuller delivery but got a thick edge to deep third where Nuwan Thushara put down the catch.  But finally, Kamboj had the last laugh as he clipped off the off stump to dismiss Mayank Agarwal and register his maiden IPL wicket.

A delivery after losing the chance to remove Head, Kamboj bowled a length ball to Agarwal. The batter made room to slap it through the off-side but missed connecting and was cleaned up.

MI Chose to Field

Earlier, the hosts won the toss and elected to bowl first against SRH in IPL 2024 Match 55. Mumbai Indians made one change in their Playing XI, handing a debut to Anshul Kamboj, who comes in place of Gerald Coetzee.

“The wickets look fresh and might have something for the new ball. We want to make sure we use it. One change: Gerald misses out and Anshul Kamboj makes his debut,” said Pandya during the toss.

Sunrisers Hyderabad too made a change, bringing in Mayank Agarwal into the playing XI to bat at No.3.

“We have got Mayank Agarwal back, batting at No.3. We have got four games left and probably need to win two to make it to the top four but we cannot think too far ahead. Too much blue in the stands and not much orange, it’s going to be noisy, I think. Wankhede always has been like that,” said Pat Cummins.
