'Master of the Craft': Nathan Lyon Sees Contests Against Arch-Rival Ravichandran Ashwin as 'an Absolute Privilege'
Nathan Lyon hailed Ravichandran Ashwin as 'an absolute master of the craft,' with the two spinners set to go at it in the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024.

Two of probably the best Test spinners of the current generation are set to go against each other in the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024 which begins in November. Nathan Lyon from Australia and Ravichandran Ashwin from India have been mainstays for their respective national teams and the Aussie looks forward to seeing his rival in the coming contest.

Both men are reaching the final stretch of their careers, and Lyon reflected on their fierce but respectful rivalry. In an interview with Star Sports, he said, ” I know Ashwin, and we debuted around similar times. We’ve competed against each other in a number of series now, and between me and Ashwin, I have nothing but respect for him.”

Both men share camaraderie off the pitch, with Ashwin hilariously suggesting a home and away legs for their meetup after their international careers as well. Lyon has always praised Ashwin and seen the Indian off-spinner as a reference point to help improve his game.

I feel like I love watching him bowl, he’s an absolute master in the craft of off-spin bowling and it’s been an absolute privilege to play against him and learn from him.” Lyon commented.

Lyon will be expected to play a crucial role in Australia’s Border-Gavaskar campaign. With the series being held in Australia, the World Test Champions are hungry for the trophy as it has been a decade since they last won the title against India.

Both teams will be looking to bring in their best teams for the contest as all eyes will be on the two-star spinners and how they will influence the game with their skills. With Ashwin and Lyon having 500 wickets in the bag, it will be a sight to behold as two of the best of the generation go at it to help bring in a massive performance against a top side.
