'Chak De India': Social Media Erupts as India End 11-year Wait for ICC Trophy at Kensington Oval

Team India got their hands on the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 with their 7-run win over South Africa in the summit clash on Saturday at the Kensington Oval in Barbados.

Fans and pundits alike took to social media to express their delight as the men in blue ended their 11-year wait for an ICC title.

The legendary Sachin Tendulkar led the way with a post that read, “Chak De India!!!!”

“Every star added to the Team India jersey inspires our nation’s starry-eyed children to move one step closer to their dreams. India gets the 4th star, our second in T20WC. Life comes full circle for Indian cricket in the West Indies. From our lows in the 2007 ODI World Cup to becoming a cricketing powerhouse and winning the T20WC in 2024. Very happy for my friend Rahul Dravid, who missed out on the 2011 World Cup win but his contribution to this T20 World Cup victory has been immense. I am so so happy for him. Indian PM Shri Narendra Modi wished the team following the historic triumph stating, “CHAMPIONS! Our team brings the T20 World Cup home in STYLE! We are proud of the Indian Cricket Team. This match was HISTORIC”

MS Dhoni shared an update that read, “WORLD CUP CHAMPIONS 2024.My heart rate was up,well done on being calm, having the self belief and doing what u guys did.From all the Indians back home and everywhere in the world a big thank you for bringing the World Cup Home.CONGRATULATIONS.arreeee thanks for the priceless birthday gift”

ICC shared a congratulatory post wishing the men in blue with an update that read, “The wait of 17 years comes to an end. India win their second #T20WorldCup trophy”

Virender Sehwag shared, “Yaaay ! The wait ends What a comeback to win this. We win a World Cup after 13 years, and a T20 World Cup after 17 years. First T20 World Cup for us win since the inception of the IPL. ”

Former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly said,”Heartiest congratulations to Rohit sharma and his team .. what a game to win .. may be a World Cup in 11 yrs but the talent the country has ,they will win many more .. Bumrah is absolutely magic .. well done Virat,axar ,Hardik and every one .. rahul Dravid and the support staff .. what a proud moment”

BCCI president Roger Binny said, “This is one of the best matches I have seen in this tournament. They played really well…India did a fantastic job, they deserve it”

Former team India batsman Suresh Raina posted, “The wait of 17 years is finally over! India wins the T20 World Cup! What a moment for our nation! 2011 World Cup winning opener Gautam Gambhir, and widely tipped to be India’s next coach, posted, “CHAMPIONS”

Bollywood actress Kajol shared an update that read, “I’m still screaming and can’t get the smile off my face …. So so happy and so so proud! So many heroes who performed at this match … truly a team effort! ”

Rivaba Jadeja posted, “Champions without a single defeat! India reigns supreme in the T20 World Cup, claiming a spectacular victory over South Africa in a nail-biting final. Kudos to Team India and proud cheers to all Indians”

IPL side Mumbai Indians congratulated Rohit Sharma with a post that read, “The only Indian with two T20 World Cup Trophies”

Seamer Mohammad Shami, who missed the tournament due to an injury he is nursing, posted “We are The Champions of the World! Incredible team effort & spirit and an unforgettable journey. Proud to bring the trophy home! Jai Hind!”

Former Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh said, “YEH MERA INDIA WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS. SO PROUD OF YOU GUYS”

VVS Laxman said, “Congratulations Team India on becoming the T20 World Champions. Been the best team in the tournament remaining unbeaten throughout. Great composure and character shown by the team to win this from the situation we were in with 5 overs remaining. Every player deserves credit for giving it their all and rising to the ocassion and wonderfully led by Rohit.”

India put up a total of 176 runs for the loss of 7 wickets and managed to limit the Proteas to 169 to reclaim the T20 title after 17 years.
