India recently revealed their 15-man squad for the T20 World Cup in June with Rohit Sharma set to led at the tournament for the second time in his career. Rohit returned to India’s T20I setup earlier this year in January leading against Afghanistan in a three-match series after not playing a single match in the format at international level since the team’s semi-final exit at the 2022 T20 World Cup in Australia.
Hardik Pandya, who was assumed to be the de facto skipper of the T20I side, has been assigned vice-captaincy duties for the world cup set to be co-hosted by the USA and the Caribbean islands starting June 1.
Both Rohit and Pandya represent five-time IPL champions Mumbai Indians, a team that has been eliminated from the playoffs race this season.
And former India cricketer Hemang Badani says that the two leaders of the international team not making it to the playoffs has left him ‘very worried’ of their chances at the world cup.
“Indian captain and vice captain out of the IPL,” Badani posted on X (formerly Twitter). “What does that speak of our quality depth and our chances. Trolls stay away.. If you have something objective to add then pls do. I for one am very worried about team India!”

India haven’t won the T20 World Cup since the inaugural edition in 2007 when MS Dhoni led the team to the title win. However, since then, they have made it to the final just once.
In fact, India haven’t won any ICC trophy since 2013 when they won their first-ever Champions Trophy. They have come close to breaking their global trophy drought on several occasions most notably at the 2023 ODI World Cup last year only to see their dreams shatter at the final hurdle.

The form of Rohit Sharma and Pandya is a cause of concern. Although Rohit scored a century earlier in IPL 2024 but has since managed just 88 runs in six innings. Pandya is also having a middling season that has coincided with MI not making it to the playoffs/
