Some travel enthusiasts love long road trips, as it gives them the chance to explore the different landscapes of a city. If you are one of them, then this article’s for you. You can travel to our neighbouring country, Myanmar, via road. On May 11, 2018, the Indo-Myanmar Border crossing agreement was signed between the two nations. Myanmar shares a border with four Indian states — Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur and Nagaland; there are only two international entry-exit checkpoints, as per the agreement. One of them is in the twin towns of Moreh and Tamu in Manipur, and the other one is Rihkhawdar, Zowkhawtar in Mizoram that are open to normal tourists/ visitors with valid passports and visas.
Which is preferable as an exit point from India?
The most popular exit point is Manipur as it will save you time. The distance between Imphal airport (Manipur) and Moreh Border is around 3.5 hours; whereas the other exit point in Mizoram has the nearest airport Lengpui, situated at a distance of around 10 hours, which is around 242 km.
Can you drive your car to Myanmar?
You can travel by car, but you will have to carry a Carnet De Pass and International Driving License (IDP), which can be applied through the Regional Transport Authority Office at a nominal cost. For Carnet De Pass, you have to pay a security deposit.
How to get a Myanmar Visa?
You can easily get a visa to Myanmar if you know the process. For hassle-free travel, you can opt for an electronic visa, for which you may need to pay a visit to the embassy to get your papers sorted. Make sure that you keep two copies of your e-visa for emergency purposes.
With all this, you are all set to hit the road and explore Myanmar.
The best time to visit Myanmar is during the dry season, between October and May.
