It is usually unusual for leading men in the Tamil film industry to play negative roles. Considering the crazy fanbase that mass heroes in the industry have, it is much of a risk casting them in negative roles as the audience may downright reject it. Director Venkat Prabhu took a chance with his 2010 film Mankatha where Ajith Kumar portrayed a character with negative shades. The scene where Ajith brutally shoves a character out of the car, showing his true colors was a memorable scene in the film. Fortunately, Mankatha was still liked by the audience and it became the second highest-grossing Tamil film of the year behind Rajinikanth’s Enthiren.
It now seems that Ajith’s strongest professional rival Thalpathy Vijay is also game for a character with grey shades, Venkat Prabhu who was the first to display Ajith Kumar’s gray side on screen may soon do the same with Vijay as well. Unconfirmed reports are doing the rounds which suggest that Vijay may be playing a negative character in his upcoming film with Venkat Prabhu after Leo.
The shooting for the film started in Chennai after which a schedule to film some action scenes was held in Thailand. Now the team has again returned to Chennai for filming. It is said that Vijay will play the roles of father and son in the yet-to-be-titled film. It has been reported that one of them has negative shades.
This piece of info reminds us of the 1996 Kamal Haasan starrer Indian where the actor played father and son, with the son having negative shades. Before this, Vijay had played a double role in Azhagiya Tamil Magan, where one of the characters played a negative one although he gets a redemption arc in the end.
Meanwhile, Vijay’s next with Venkat Prabhu boasts of a talented star cast including Meenakshi Chaudhary, Sneha, Prashanth, Laila, Mohan and Prabhu Deva.
