Iftikhar Ahmed, the 33-year-old Pakistani cricketer, was captured having a conversation with “nobody” during the Pakistan Vs Afghanistan clash in ICC World Cup 2023 on Monday in Chennai. Mohammad Rizwan, Shaheen Shah Afridi, and Shadab Khan had assembled to perhaps discuss the game plan and strategies to undo Afghani batters who were cruising at 152/1 chasing Pakistan’s target of 283.
This was when Iftikhar Ahmed was spotted in the backdrop of the three Pakistan players engrossed in a deep conversation. Who was he talking to? No one. That is what a video that surfaced on microblogging website ‘X’ suggests.
Was he talking to stump mic? Was he giving himself a pep talk? Or was he chatting up with a fellow team member who didn’t make it to the camera frame? Or did he simply have an earpiece on?
We do not have answers nor do the fans on social media.

Meanwhile, Pakistan faced a humiliating loss to a dominant Afghanistan at a packed Chepauk Stadium. Chasing Pakistan’s 283, Afghanistan needed just four batters namely Ibrahim Zadran (87), Rahmat Shah (77 not out), Rahmanullah Gurbaz (65) and skipper Hashmatullah Shahidi (48 not out) to get the business done with six balls and 8 wickets to spare.

Mpumelelo Mbangwa, who was seated in the commentary box, summed up the exciting display of cricket shown by Afghanistan with words of praise.
“And there it is. Momentous. Historic. The first time Afghanistan have won two matches in a World Cup. Absolutely fantastic. A controlled and skillful and dominant run chase against former champions Pakistan. They have doubled up on celebrations,” Mpumelelo Mbangwa spoke into the mic as Matthew Hayden and Waqar Younis looked on in disbelief.
