Wipro man claims whipped by wife
Wipro engineer Gaurav Nigam has denied the 'dating allowance' charge and instead says his wife used to beat him up.

Bangalore: The case of Wipro Technologies Ltd getting sued by an estranged wife of an employee for 'dating allowance' has taken a new twist.

On Saturday, Gaurav Nigam, a software engineer with the Bangalore-based IT giant, gave his side of the story at a press conference organised by NGOs Asha Kiran and Save Indian Family Foundation.

Nigam said that 'dating allowance' did not exist in Wipro. He then accused his wife, Tripti, of physical abuse.

Gaurav said, ''I was never paid any dating allowance. In fact, my wife Tripti used to beat me a lot. She would pressurise me to transfer the ownership of the house and the car into her name and when I would refuse, she would beat me."

He alleged that on one such occasion, Tripti had left him and gone back to her parents house from where she filed a dowry complaint against him, after which his parents were arrested and sent to jail for three days 'for no fault of theirs'.

Gaurav wanted to know on what basis had she dragged the name of Wipro Chief Ajim Premji into the case, especially when no such thing as a dating allowance exists in the company.

According to reports in newspapers, Tripti and Gaurav have been living separately for the past 18 months. Gaurav had filed a divorce application in April, following which she filed a case against him under the Domestic Violence Act.

In her petition, Tripti had also alleged that Wipro's dating allowance 'showed their complicity in encouraging his extra-marital affairs'. She claimed that Gaurav had started neglecting her and the home since he had started getting the allowance.

The Kanpur Magistrate court then issued summons against Azim Premji and Wipro Human Resources Head, Pratik Kumar, asking them to appear in the court on November 29.

When contacted a Wipro spokesman, however, denied the prevalence of 'dating allowance' for employees and said, "We would like to categorically state that we do not have a dating allowance in any form and hence cannot elaborate on this alleged issue."
