Mumbai: The market closed higher. The Sensex and Nifty closed at all-time high. Buying was seen in technology, metal, consumer durables, oil and FMCG stocks.
The Sensex closed up 81.07 points or 0.75 per cent at 10941.11. It touched an intraday high of 10946.94 and an intraday low of 10889.41.
The Nifty closed up 31.60 points or 0.98 per cent at 3265.65. The Nifty closed at an all-time high. It touched an all-time high of 3268.25.
The CNX Midcap closed up 40.20 points or 0.87 per cent at 4677.10. It touched an intraday high of 4679.25 and an intraday low of 4654.20.
The BSE Small Cap Index closed up 14.35 points or 0.23 per cent at 6263.42. The BSE Midcap Index closed up 43.62 points or 0.86 per cent at 5095.28.
MTNL, Zee, Sail, Wipro, Infosys, TCS and Grasim were the biggest index gainers.
The total market turnover was at Rs 33,336.34 crore (Rs 333.36 billion).
The BSE IT Index outperformed the other indices. It closed up 2.68 per cent at 3947.60 amid gains in Wipro, HCL Tech, Infosys, i-flex Solutions, TCS, MphasiS BFL and Satyam.
A rally was also seen in metal stocks including Sterlite Industries, Sesa Goa, Hindustan Zinc, Sail, JSW Steel, Gujarat NRE Coke, Jindal Steel and Nalco. The BSE Metal Index closed up 2.31 per cent at 7783.14.
Consumer durables stocks like Su-Raj Diamonds, Samtel Color, Whirlpool and Titan also surged up. The BSE Consumer Durables Index closed up 0.59 per cent at 3250.12.
Oil stocks like Gail, Chennai Petro, BPCL and Kochi Refineries also ended higher. The BSE Oil & Gas Index closed up 0.45 per cent at 4716.41.
Select buying was seen in FMCG, pharma, capital goods, auto and banking stocks.
