Mumbai: It was a quite day for the markets as they closed flat after opening in the positive terrain on Wednesday.
Except for IT, all the other BSE sector indices closed in red. The Sensex closed at 13,949.00 up 11 points and the Nifty closed flat at 4015.95.
The BSE Small Cap Index closed at 6,739.73 down 60 points.
The BSE Midcap Index ended at 5,776.68 down 52 points.
The BSE FMCG Index lost 0.6 per cent at 2,053.98. Colgate, Shaw Wallace, ITC, Nirma, Britannia closed in red.
The BSE Metal Index was down 0.05 per cent to close at 9,143.94. Welspun Guj, Hind Zinc, Mah Seamless, Sesa Goa were among the losers.
The BSE Bankex was flat at 7,197.00. Karnataka Bank, PNB, Centurion BoP, UTI Bank, Andhra Bank moved downwards.
The BSE Health Care Index was plunged 0.7 per cent at 3,759.65. Ipca Labs, Divis Labs, Glenmark, Nicholas Pirama, Biocon closed lower.
The BSE Capital Goods Index was down 0.13 per cent at 9,367.76. Ingersoll Rand, Alstom Projects, Thermax, KEC Infrastruct, ABB ended lower.
The BSE Auto Index closed at 5,460.58 down 0.7 per cent. Amtek Auto, Escorts, MRF, TVS Motor, Apollo Tyres were among the losers.
The BSE IT Index closed at 5,193.61 up 0.11 per cent. HCL Info, TCS, HCL Tech, Satyam ended strong.
The BSE Oil and Gas Index closed at 6,184.92 down 0.08 per cent. IOC, MRPL, HPCL, Chennai Petro slipped.
The NSE cash turnover was at Rs 8689.07 crore and the NSE F&O turnover was at Rs 32,053.87 crore.
The BSE cash turnover was Rs 4545.28 crore. Total market wide turnover was at Rs 45,288.22 crore.
