Sensex closes above 13,500 pts
The bulls have jumped into the ring and consequently the markets have opened in green on Thursday.

New Delhi: After notching up 186 points on Wednesday, the benchmark Sensex on Thursday surged further to end above 13,500 points.

The markets have continued the rally for the second day running and it ended near the highest points of the day on the back of heavy buying seen in scrips facross sectors.

The banking stocks were back in style leading the uptrend followed by IT, capital goods and oil & gas.

The markets have regained almost half of their losses that they made during the three-day downtrend. Midcaps and smallcaps also participated in the uptrend.

The Sensex closed up 305.82 points or 2.32 per cent at 13487.16, and the Nifty up 77.85 points or 2.07 per cent at 3843.05.

About 2013 shares have advanced, 474 shares declined, and 59 shares are unchanged.

The BSE Small Cap Index closed at 6,594.52 up 201 points or 3.14 per cent.

The BSE Midcap Index ended at 5,616.97 up 139.61 points or 2.6 per cent.

The BSE Bankex was up 2.6 per cent at 6,899.32. Bank of India, Centurion BoP, ICICI Bank, Vijaya Bank, IOB, Andhra Bank moved upwards.

The BSE IT Index gained 2.7 per cent at 5,127.59. HCL Tech, Mphasis BFL, Moser Baer, Satyam, Hexaware Tech advanced.

The BSE Metal Index was up 1 per cent to close at 8,468.78. JSW Steel, Mah Seamless, NALCO, Guj NRE Coke, Hindalco ended higher.
