Bangalore: There will be no "Act-II" for Infosys chairman and chief mentor N R Narayana Murthy, who retires on August 20 when he turns 60, and the company he had founded 25 years ago remains his first and last love.
Murthy says he does not have any plans to venture into the pharma or biotechnology sector.
Neither is he contemplating investing in start-up firms. For the sofware icon, Infosys comes first and last.
"I don't think I will have second act", he said soon after the Board of Directors resolved to appoint him as an Additional Director of the company from August 21, as also the Non-Executive Chairman and Chief Mentor.
"I have enjoyed doing what I did in creating this company...nurturing it," he said.
Murthy indicated that it was the Board's wish that he should continue as the Chief Mentor, though he had expressed the view in the past that it would be better if it's an executive position.
"Yes, my view was that it is best if it's an executive position. However, independent members of the Board felt that I could discharge my responsibilities as Chief Mentor even better if I do not have executive responsibility...that I can spend more time in mentoring people", he said.
"I bowed to the wisdom of the independent directors and other members of the Board. That's why I accepted (to continue as Chief Mentor). Because I have a very simple principle... whatever anybody in Infosys wants me to do to make the company better, I will do it as long as it's legal and ethical", he added.
