New Delhi: The Bombay Stock Exchange Sensex on Thursday shot up by 243 points to regain the 13,000 mark in early trading on funds buying in line with the global markets.
At 1030 hrs, IST, the Sensex was up 224.91 points or 1.74 per cent at 13170.79, and the Nifty up 73.40 points or 1.95 per cent at 3837.95. About 1285 shares have advanced, 409 shares declined, and 45 shares are unchanged.
The Sensex had gained nearly 515 points in the past three trading sessions.
Stock observers said apart from funds buying, heavy short-covering in derivative segment by operators also worked as a booster.
Most of BSE-30 and NSE-50 stocks were in the positive zone with sizable gains, lifting the Sensex higher.
Top gainers on the Sensex are SBI at Rs 1,021.90 up 4.05 per cent, ONGC at Rs 836.20 up 2.89 per cent and Reliance Comm at Rs 421 up 2.70 per cent.
Top gainers on the Nifty are VSNL at Rs 404.55 up 5.19 per cent, SBI at Rs 1,020.10 up 3.78 per cent and Oriental Bank at Rs 183.15 up 3.15 per cent.
Top losers on the Nifty are Zee Entertain at Rs 249.50 down 0.8 per cent, GlaxoSmithKline at Rs 1,152.10 down 0.59% and GAIL at Rs 278.50 down 0.32 per cent.
